Chris Harnick from Mobile Marketer has written a very nice article about how ABC is using the mobile platform to source volunteers and donations for their Extreme Makeover Home Edition show. It’s a truly worthwhile initiative by ABC and the use of the mobile platform makes it very interesting.

ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is leveraging the mobile platform to get volunteers and raise donations for an Indiana family in need.
Software company URBaCS is using CellTrust’s mobile messaging gateway to send notifications to volunteers who signed up to help Hallmark Homes build housing. Outdoor signage, online calls-to-action and radio promotions are encouraging spectators to sign-up for the SMS alerts and eventually donate.
“We have a large, broad range of people out at the job site and the excitement level is unparalleled,” said Jayson Manship, director of operations at URBaCS, Noblesville, IN. “They’re excited to help and watch a family in need get a dream home.
